School Closing Protocol

School Closings Due to Weather

Our school closing policy has one aim—to ensure the safety of your child. School may start late; students may be released early; or classes may be cancelled entirely due to inclement weather. Please be familiar with the following information sources in the event of school cancellations or early release.

Inclement Weather: The decision to close school because of inclement weather will be made between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. We are asking parents to not call the school when weather threatens. Rather, tune into your local radio and television stations for the up to date information. School closing information will also be sent via school messenger and email.

When you see or hear that Columbus City Schools and/or Westerville City Schools are closed due to weather, Horizon Science Academy Westerville will also be closed.

Early Dismissals: In case of inclement weather developing, school will possibly dismiss early. In such cases, special bulletins are broadcasted over the radio and television stations, as well as, sent via school messenger and email. Early dismissals are called only if and when the bus fleet is available to transport students home. Students will be encouraged to telephone their parent/guardians at work if reporting home is unfeasible. At no time will any student be left unattended at the school building.
